We will confirm your arrival time with you before the date of your procedure. Generally, we will ask you to arrive 90 minutes to 2 hours before your procedure is scheduled.

Your time in surgery will depend on which procedure you have as well as individual factors such as your overall health. In most cases, you can expect to spend 3 to 4 hours at the Surgical Center at Cedar Knolls from your arrival to your discharge. For a closer estimate, please speak with your doctor.

Consuming food or drink after midnight before your procedure may lead to the cancellation of your procedure. This is due to the extreme risk to your safety with potential complications if you have liquids or food in your stomach when you are given anesthesia. If you have chewed gum or tobacco or consumed any food, candy, mints, or liquids at all after midnight before your procedure, alert your nurse, doctor, or anesthesiologist immediately.

You will receive instructions from your doctor or preoperative care team on which medications you should take and what you should not take the morning of your procedure. Please keep in mind that you will need to limit your water intake as much as possible as well.

For your safety and comfort, you are required to have an escort to bring you to the Surgical Center at Cedar Knolls, receive postoperative instructions with you, and drive you home. Medications given to you to aid your recovery will impair your ability to drive for 24 hours.
